Excess in moderation.
The misanthropic but often hopeful comedian Doug Stanhope gives out some good advice.
Up until now I have lived my life with a bit of this attitude, except for the hooker part. When I was younger I thought that it was a good idea to double the recommended dose of any medication I was given because obviously they put a low dosage in the instructions to make sure nobody overdoses. So I thought that if you wanted the real effects you should, for the best benefits, double the dosage. Nice. My liver and kidneys thank me, I’m sure.
Now I’m a little more sensible. I make sure I know where the fire escapes are, unplug all electrical appliances before I go to sleep, and put a torch beside my bed incase there is an earthquake and we need to escape in the dark.
I still drink all the beers though.
