UPDATE: David Foster Wallace has been found dead by his wife in Claremont CA. He had hung himself at the age of 46. 

Wallace had received a genius grant from the MacArthur Foundation in 1997, and had been since 2002 a tenured professor of English and Creative Writing at Pomona College CA.

This is shocking news; I am halfway through the 1079 pages of Infinite Jest, and so immersed in Foster Wallace’s world that it feels like a visceral loss as I read on. His voice is so unique that he feels woven into the pages.

The world has lost a great talent, a genius.
